The arrival of the container on August 19, 2026, marks the triumphant conclusion of several months of international logistical operation spearheaded by Prof. Anton Edl of Austria. The project, which commenced in April 2026, represents a powerful partnership between Austrian benefactors and the Salesian Province of Africa Nigeria Niger (ANN) to bridge the digital divide for thousands of underprivileged Nigerian youth.

A Lifetime of Gratitude: The Story Behind the Donation
The seed for this partnership was sown on April 22, 2026, when Prof. Anton Edl initiated discussions to donate high-quality refurbished IT systems to the Salesians of Don Bosco in Nigeria. For Prof. Edl, this massive philanthropic gesture stems from a deeply personal connection to the Salesian mission.

“I grew up in a Don Bosco home in Austria when I was young,” Prof. Edl shared, explaining his lifelong appreciation for the organisation’s work in raising and empowering young people. To make this donation a reality, Prof. Edl partnered with members of his local Austrian parish, who volunteered their time to help sort, pack, and prepare the massive consignment for its maritime journey.

Cutting-Edge Technology to Power Technical Education
The donation was meticulously curated to meet the diverse technical, educational, and creative needs of the province’s youth. Unlike typical generic donations, the equipment consists of robust, high-specification systems tailored for modern learning:

High-Performance Refurbished PCs: Approximately 400 desktop computers, complete with 24-inch flat-panel TFT monitors, mice, and licensed Windows 11 operating systems. To ensure longevity and reliable performance, each machine is configured with at least 8GB of RAM and fast solid-state drives (SSDs).
Specialist Graphic Workstations: A selection of Apple computers specifically designated for advanced video editing and graphic design training.

Given the instability of the local power grid, communities receiving the desktop computers will utilise solar power installations, ensuring a clean and continuous energy supply for the students.

Navigating the Logistical Journey
Shipping 135 heavily packed parcels across 11 pallets from the heart of Europe to West Africa was a formidable logistical feat. The container officially departed Austria on June 17, 2026, embarking on a long sea voyage. The vessel carrying the container docked at Apapa Port in Lagos on August 1, 2026, before the container was transferred to the Tin Can Island Port terminal. Fr Raphael Airoboman and the PDO team worked closely with local shipping and customs clearance agents to navigate the rigorous administrative clearances, including the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR). Despite initial clearing benchmarks that went up to several millions in duties, the administrative processes were successfully resolved, and the container was cleared on August 14, 2026, before its final delivery to the Provincial House.

Broad Geographical Distribution and Youth Impact
The newly received IT equipment and furniture will be distributed strategically across several states and regional hubs in Nigeria to maximise its educational impact:

Vocational Upgrades: Upgrading the province’s four Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Vocational Training Centres (VTC) to meet international standards.
Support for New Schools: Distributing classroom furniture and computer labs to newly established Salesian schools in the Northern regions, the Middle Belt, and Benin.
Regional Outreach: Establishing IT learning centres in Ondo, Ogidi, Ibadan, Uyo, and Lagos.
Creative and Medical Sectors: Equipping the Art 43 creative studios with multimedia gear and providing essential support to two Salesian-run clinics.

We join in thanksgiving as the Tse-Mker community continues to witness remarkable growth and development, made possible through God’s providence and the generous support of benefactors.

During a recent visit to the community, the Provincial Economer, Fr Raphael, expressed his joy at the stability and positive atmosphere within the house. He noted with satisfaction that the brothers currently on holiday are well settled and thriving. Many of them have even jokingly expressed their desire to continue their Philosophy studies in Tse-Mker if the opportunity becomes available.

The visit also highlighted the significant progress made across the mission. Among the completed and ongoing projects are the construction of modern toilet facilities, the renovation of student hostels, the drilling of a borehole to provide clean water, the ongoing construction of the community chapel, the partial completion of the school’s perimeter fence, the installation of a solar power system to ensure reliable electricity, the provision of computers to enhance learning, and the awarding of scholarships to deserving students.

These achievements stand as visible signs of God’s blessings and the unwavering generosity of donors who continue to place their confidence in the Province’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship.

Ibadan, Nigeria — The Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Ibadan, today celebrated its Convocation Ceremony, bringing to a close a week-long Students’ Week programme that highlighted academic excellence, community life, and gratitude for the gift of formation.

The convocation marked the culmination of years of intellectual, human, spiritual, and pastoral formation for students enrolled in the Institute’s philosophy programme. The graduating class comprised Salesians of Don Bosco, members of other religious congregations, and lay students who have journeyed together in the pursuit of philosophical studies and personal growth.

The week-long celebration concluded a series of activities aimed at fostering fraternity, reflection, and appreciation for the educational mission of the Institute. NIGERIA – In a landmark week for youth empowerment, the Youth Employability Booster Project successfully concluded its maiden graduation ceremonies across three Salesian key hubs: Lagos, Abuja, and Obosi. Supported by the Mastercard Foundation and Young Africa Nigeria, the ceremonies marked a significant milestone in equipping Nigerian youth with the market-ready skills necessary to navigate the modern workforce.

On February 6th, 2026, the Lagos Centre at Iju hosted a prestigious ceremony to honour its first cohort. The event featured high-level industry insights aimed at transitioning graduates from the classroom to the corporate world.

  • Keynote Address: Mr Mayowa Adanlawo, Business Development Manager at Wema Bank, delivered a powerful charge to the graduands on financial literacy and business growth.
  • Industry Expertise: Mrs Theresa Amaechi, Head of People, Culture, and Transformation at Workforce Group, shared invaluable perspectives on workplace culture and professional adaptability.
  • Partnership: The event was graced by representatives from the Mastercard Foundation and Young Africa Nigeria, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the project’s success.
