The Salesian Presence in Onipetesi, Blessed Ceferino Namumcura, operates under the St. Joseph Community in Omole. This presence serves as a dedicated Child Protection Center, focusing on empowering and providing shelter for vulnerable boys. With a clear vision in mind, our goal is to establish a world-class child protection and rehabilitation home. We aim to create an environment where every vulnerable child and young person can grow, receive an empowering education, live a dignified life, and ultimately become productive and contributing members of society.

Our mission is centered around sheltering, caring for, rehabilitating, educating, and reintegrating each child into their family and the broader community. Guided by our core values, which include family spirit, care, protection, accountability, respect for life, and empowerment, we strive to create a nurturing and supportive environment for these vulnerable individuals.

To achieve our goals, we utilize Don Bosco’s preventive system of education, which is built upon three pillars: Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness. This comprehensive approach enables us to provide holistic support and guidance to the children under our care.

Our Salesian Presence is conveniently located at No. 42 Baba Pomile Street, Onipetesi Estate, Idi Mangoro, Lagos. This strategic location allows us to be accessible to those in need and strengthens our ties with the local community.

Through our dedicated efforts and commitment, we aspire to make a lasting impact on the lives of these vulnerable boys, fostering their personal growth and equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive. By providing them with a safe haven, quality education, and a supportive network, we aim to empower them to break free from their circumstances and become confident, responsible, and self-reliant individuals.

Together, let us create a brighter future for these vulnerable children, one filled with hope, opportunity, and the chance to lead fulfilling lives.

The Salesian Child Protection Centre in Ibadan, Nigeria, stands as a testament to the providence and commitment of the Sons of Don Bosco. In response to the dire situation of street children in the Iwo area, the Salesians embarked on a mission to provide a safe haven for these vulnerable young individuals.

The initial efforts began with periodic visits and the rental of rooms to offer the children a secure place to stay and a meeting point with the Salesians. However, it became evident that a more homely environment was essential for their growth. This led to the idea of involving families willing to adopt these young individuals, a gesture that proved immensely beneficial and inspiring.

Over time, the desire for a dedicated facility for these young people grew stronger within the Salesian community. The Bicentenary year of the Salesian Congregation served as a catalyst, igniting the vision to establish a house specifically designed to cater to the needs of these marginalized youths, paying homage to Don Bosco’s legacy of caring for the poor and abandoned.

After months of prayer, hard work, and the generous support of Salesian collaborators and benefactors, the dream materialized. On January 28, 2017, Archbishop Gabriel Abegunrin of Ibadan inaugurated and blessed the newly constructed building, marking a significant milestone in the Salesian mission.

During the ceremony, Archbishop Abegunrin commended the Salesians for their unwavering dedication to this noble initiative and acknowledged the presence of former street children who had become integral participants in the occasion. While some finishing touches are still underway, the house can already comfortably accommodate up to 40 young people.

Notably, the completed facility boasts state-of-the-art features, including a solar energy system that ensures a sustainable and eco-friendly operation. This innovative approach aligns with the Salesians’ commitment to both the well-being of the children and the preservation of the environment.

The Salesian Child Protection Centre in Ibadan stands as a beacon of hope, offering vulnerable youth the opportunity to escape the perils of street life and receive the care, education, and support they deserve. Through the concerted efforts of the Salesians, dedicated collaborators, and the generosity of benefactors, this center embodies the Salesian mission to protect and empower the most vulnerable members of society.

As the Salesians continue their vital work, they remain grateful for the divine providence that has guided them on this journey and inspired others to join them in making a profound difference in the lives of these young individuals.

Together, let us uphold the spirit of Don Bosco and ensure that every child finds a loving and supportive environment where they can flourish and build a brighter future.
