Welcome to Don Bosco Online Radio, a vibrant platform created by the Salesians to entertain and train young people in the art of radio presenting. What started as an Oratory experiment, where youths would give live reports on Oratory activities through a sound system, has evolved into a full-fledged radio station with a dedicated studio setup and online hosting. Run entirely by youths, for youths, Don Bosco Online Radio transcends geographical boundaries and can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
Our mission is twofold: to provide entertainment and to empower young voices. Through the radio, we aim to keep our audience engaged, informed, and inspired. But it doesn’t stop there – we also offer comprehensive training and certification courses to nurture their talents and skills. Our training programs include Canva graphics design, storytelling and content creation, basic video editing, photography and editing, as well as OAP (On-Air Personality) basics. By equipping young people with these valuable skills, we empower them to express themselves and make a positive impact in their communities.
One of our notable initiatives under the umbrella of Don Bosco Online Radio is the Africa Face of Peace (AFOP) pageant. AFOP serves four important purposes:
Youth Empowerment: We believe in harnessing the passion for glamour and fashion that young people possess and channeling it towards self-empowerment. The pageant provides a platform for contestants to develop their skills and use them to benefit themselves and those around them.
Fusing Culture and Modernity: AFOP promotes the positive aspects of African culture while embracing modern trends. We celebrate our heritage while embracing the opportunities of the present.
Promoting Peace through Different Themes: Each year, AFOP focuses on a specific theme to promote peace and raise awareness about important issues. For example, one year’s theme was environmental sustainability, where we emphasized the importance of recycling, eco-alternatives, and the green initiative.
Fun and Education: During the pageant camp, we create an environment where contestants can have fun while also receiving valuable education. Activities include catwalk training, dance workshops, skills acquisition sessions, and history lessons during outings.
